I went to gophersports.com, and after going past the main story, I browsed headlines and saw this:

'WTF: Podominick Qualifies for Regionals in First-Ever Collegiate Meet'

I read that and it took me way too long to figure out that the abbreviation stood for 'Women's Track and Field'.

Um, yeah, I'm going to bed now.

My Gophers play again on the 21st at 6:30 because they beat St. Francis 64-33, and I actually got to see a bit of it. I liked the part at the very end of the game when Jaime Broback and Janel McCarville were joking on the sidelines. I was trying to read their lips (unsucessfully). I doubt Janel said, 'Check that blonde in Row 5', but that's honestly what it LOOKED like! According to the ever-so-reliable Dataloungers, Janel likes the cheerleader types... (feel free to smack me)

In other news, I correctly predicted Oregon over TCU and the Utah win. I missed NC-State and Old Dominion. But my bracket is still reasonably intact.

According to Stacey Dales-Schuman, after an Oral Roberts player fouled Jamie Carey hard enough to send her to the ground and injure her jaw, the Oral Roberts player was laughing. I seriously hope it was not at Carey's misfortune, because I like her, and I tend to get rather defensive about players who I like (and slash-one of these days I'll get a Carey/Cat Osterman up).

That's about all. The 1 seeds play tommorow, but I don't think anyone I'm hugely interested in. Curious about the outcome of Purdue/New Mexico (two teams Minnesota beat) and I wonder if Wisconsin Green Bay can pull off the upset of Maryland (for all the disgruntled Gopher fans out there!). See you.

Yesterday I was getting some juice, and I wasn't paying attention. So I accidentally slammed the glass into the counter. Apparently there had already been a hairline crack in the glass, so it just shattered. I sliced my palm open and cut from the cuticle on my ring finger down to nearly the first knuckle. So I had to bandage it up with gauze and tape all around my hand today to play in the game, and even then Zig sat me out the first two innings because she was worried about it resplitting (my palm). I might need stitches, it hurts right now, and to top it off, we lost. At least at 'practice' tommorow morning, we're gonna all go to Albertsons and get doughnuts! Anyway, see you.

Yeah, more Olympics.

First things first: In the paper yesterday, there was an article by some guy. He said that since the men's basketball team lost to Puerto Rico (and since I haven't expressed my opinion on that yet, UGH, YUCK, etc), and also said that since Michael Phelps couldn't beat Mark Spitz's record, the USA wasn't dominant in any Olympic sport anymore. Um, bullshit. Hello, they're called WOMEN, ever hear of them? The women's basketball team's beating their opponents by, what, an average of 35 points a game or something? That's what the men should be doing, yeah, but they're not. So while the women are on route to getting a gold, the men get half the front page of the sports page, and the women get a 2X2 blurb on page 8. And there's the softball team, too. In four games, their opponents haven't even SCORED. If that's not dominate, well, what is?

And speaking of softball, last night I watched USA and China, and the night before I watched USA vs. Japan. Japan played a really good game, although I have to admit that they kind of had a cheap loss. If after the seventh inning the game is tied, the runner who made the last out in the previous inning starts the inning on second. I don't get it. I know it's meant to speed the game up, but I think it compromises the purity of the game. Anyway, during the China game, it was slightly distressing. The commentators were saying that the Olympic commitee was considering cutting softball from Olympic sports because of the USA's dominance and also the fact that since the Olympics were being held in smaller cities (Athens is considered a 'smaller' city), there wasn't room or something. So you're going to cut a sport so smaller cities can host the Olympics? Don't get me wrong, it's a huge honor for any city to host the Olympics, but I mean, softball is a legit sport and should be in the Olympics, and if your city can't have room for a few fields...well, whose problem is that? As for the US dominance, well...I don't know what should be done about that, or what can be. But I know that there would be a LOT of pissed off people if softball was cut.

Anyway, the women's basketball team plays tonight at 4:30 in the morning. I'll probably just stay up...but the softball team plays at 7:30. So I don't really know what to do. I' watching the basketball for sure, though. That's about it, see you.

Well, I was curious, so I went on to my school's website to see when the first and last days of school would be. September 7 to June 16. Oh, that is scary. I can't believe it. Summer's almost over. And I STILL haven't finished either Steinbeck book. I just need to sit down one of these nights and DO IT. I'm about 5/8 through with 'Travels With Charley', and I have my list of places...although I seriously hope my new language arts teacher isn't truly going to grade that, because I don't think it's going to be very accurate. At least I'll have the states down. I hope. As for 'The Red Pony', I've read the first page and learned a lot about ranch hand Billy Buck. I NEED TO DO MY SUMMER HOMEWORK. I desperately do. I don't even have a month anymore... I had a dream last night about it being the first day of school and me not having it done. And doing it all in home base the first day. It won't be that bad, I hope, although I am getting memories of last year when I was doing summer homework the day before school started...and reading my summer reading at 1:00 A.M. the morning school started... Oh boy. I'm going to finish Charley by...I'll say August 24. The Red Pony by the 20th. There! It's in ink...sorta... Anyway, see you.

Third Eye Blind's 'Slow Motion'. After the 9/11 attacks, their record company wouldn't let them release it with the lyrics, except for the chorus, so it became an instrumental. However, it's available for download as an uncensored version (and it's really making me wish that my computer's sound worked, damnit!) Anyway, I love the lyrics a bit too much, maybe, but here... Under a cut because of some...er...things that probably deserve to be cut.

You are an SEDF--Sober Emotional Destructive Follower. This makes you an evil genius. You are extremely focused and difficult to distract from your tasks. With luck, you have learned to channel your energies into improving your intellect, rather than destroying the weak and unsuspecting.

Your friends may find you remote and a hard nut to crack. Few of your peers know you very well--even those you have known a long time--because you have expert control of the face you put forth to the world. You prefer to observe, calculate, discern and decide. Your decisions are final, and your desire to be right is impenetrable.

You are not to be messed with. You may explode.

Ah, the joys of being an honors student. I get a big summer reading list (again), have to write an essay (again), and get to look forward to math homework every single night (except on days when we have quizzes or tests). Hallelujah for me, right? So, every student has to read The Red Pony and Travels With Charlie by John Steinbeck. So I get to go get those tommorow. Anyway, my grades arrived:

Orchestra: A for the quarter, A for the semester
Language: B quarter, B semester
P.E.: A quarter, A semester
Math: B quarter, C semester (I don't get this. On Monday the 7th, I had an 89, averaging an 81 for the semester. On Thursday the 10th, I had an 81 for quarter, averaging a 77 for semester. How?! There were no assignments to drop my grade. I think I got screwed over. But I'm still gonna be in the highest posible level of math next year anyway.)
Social Studies: A quarter, A semester
Science: A quarter, A semester

Cumulative GPA: 3.500

Other than the math thing, that's pretty good, I think. Anyway, I'm gonna be yelled at if I don't get off the computer soon. See you.
